Exploring Marks and Spencer in Edinburgh: A Comprehensive Guide

Marks and Spencer, commonly known as M&S, is a well-established supermarket located within the Gyle Shopping Centre in Edinburgh. Offering a variety of products, including high-quality food and fashionable clothing, this store presents a unique shopping experience.

Food Offerings

The Food Hall at M&S is a major highlight, featuring a diverse selection of fresh produce, frozen foods, and their famous "Dine in for Two" meal deals. Customers consistently praise the great produce available, especially the deli counter and bakery items. For those looking for a quick bite, the café offers a variety of delicious options, making it perfect for a quick visit.

Service Options and Accessibility

M&S aims to provide excellent service with various service options. Unfortunately, customer service experiences can vary. Some shoppers have reported instances of unfriendly staff, particularly at the self-checkout, which led to frustration when attempting to use contactless payments. However, there are also commendable staff members noted for their helpfulness and professionalism.

The store prioritizes accessibility with features such as a wheelchair-accessible car park and a wheelchair-accessible entrance. This is crucial for providing an inclusive environment for all customers.

Payment Methods

M&S accepts several payment methods, including debit cards, but some customers have experienced issues with self-service tills, particularly regarding NFC mobile payments being down during busy periods. It's advisable to plan accordingly, especially during peak shopping times.

Parking and Convenience

The supermarket benefits from a huge free parking lot, making it convenient for visitors. The layout of the store allows for easy navigation, aiding in a smoother shopping experience. However, some customers have expressed concerns about the layout, particularly its ability to accommodate wheelchair users effectively.

Sustainability Initiatives

Marks and Spencer is committed to sustainability, with efforts such as recycling programs in place. They emphasize the use of energy-efficient equipment, such as fridges and freezers with doors that keep produce fresher while minimizing energy consumption.

Community Engagement

M&S is recognized as LGBTQ+ friendly and promotes a positive community spirit. Many customers appreciate the inclusiveness of the store, which adds to the welcoming atmosphere.

Conclusion

While the Marks and Spencer in Edinburgh offers a range of quality products and services, experiences may vary widely, especially concerning customer service. Whether you're stopping by for in-store pick-up of groceries or indulging in a treat at the café, there's no doubt that M&S aims to satisfy its shoppers. Emphasizing quality, convenience, and community, it's a staple in the Edinburgh shopping landscape.

I absolutely adore the £10 afternoon tea for one and their delicious prepared meals.

The layout is not very wheelchair-friendly. I used to shop here often for many years, but the recent changes to the layout have made me avoid it whenever I can. The clothing quality is poor and the selection is not as good as it used to be. It seems like they are now focusing on attracting younger customers in their 20s and forgetting about their loyal demographic.

I went for my nursing bra fitting yesterday, 22/2/24 with Meghan at the Gyle M&S in Edinburgh. Meghan was absolutely brilliant, really helpful and made me feel completely at ease. She took the time to ensure I got the perfect bra size and even shared some great tips on nursing bras. I'll definitely be returning. xxx

Outstanding service from a duty manager at M&S Gyle Edinburgh. A true expert in providing excellent customer service and truly made our child's day - thank you!

The customer service at this place, absolutely dreadful. I tell you, I wouldn't go back there if you paid me. My dear mother, she goes and buys some clothes right before they are shutting up shop, only to find out they've charged her all wrong. The receipt says one thing, but the actual product is another! So, we go back the next day to sort it out and the folks at the return desk are useless. They're saying the item on the receipt don't match what my dear mum bought. I'm there like, "Listen here, she should have paid £50 not £90, so kindly give us back that extra cash, thank you very much." Next thing you know, out comes the manager, accusing us of buying it elsewhere. Can you believe it? I even said, "Check the blinking CCTV, mate. See what was bought." So off they trot with my receipt, taking their sweet time, mind you. And then they come back saying they can't use the CCTV as proof 'cause it's magically disappeared. They knew full well what was bought and when, no need for all this rigmarole. The manager had the cheek to suggest we got it elsewhere when it was clearly their error at the till. Absolutely ludicrous!

My daughter and I popped into the Cafe at M and S in the Gyle today. Quite an incident occurred when my daughter accidentally spilled her hot chocolate, creating quite the mess on the floor and table. However, the staff, Lisa and Michael, were absolute gems. They swiftly sprang into action, relocating us to a different table with such courtesy. Their demeanor was impeccable - they maintained their composure, sporting smiles all the while as they efficiently cleaned up the spill. The reassurances they offered throughout the ordeal were incredibly reassuring. A big thank you to them for their exceptional handling of the situation.
Joe Thompson (22/08/2025, 22:19):
The food court feels a bit too tight and snug for the amount of folks bustling about. The store itself is ginormous, they should definitely trim down on some other sections and expand the food court. The "free from" selection is mainly gluten free - hardly any options for dairy free, nut free, and the like. Pretty average otherwise, apart from the loud lady at the entrance.
Randy Edwards (15/08/2025, 19:55):
I opted not to utilize the self-checkout, and the woman who assisted me was just lovely! She expertly packed my items with care. 10 out of 10 for customer service.
Daisy Hernandez (15/08/2025, 06:32):
Absolutely splendid Marks & Spencer, simply enormous! They must have 99% of their product range out on display. Fantastic food court, café, and beautifully done restrooms. The finest store in the Gyle without a doubt.
Nicole Carter (10/08/2025, 23:46):
Kindly take note that this store no longer has M&S Bank services available. They haven't been offered since the COVID situation. However, you can still come in person to apply for an M&S credit card and receive support, but there are no other financial services provided, except for a currency exchange bureau.
Mark Howard (10/08/2025, 04:32):
Great selection of products and clothing. The store is spacious and well-lit, all on a single level. My only complaint from today's visit is that even though there were plenty of staff in the cafe area, they should have opened another checkout. By 3:10 pm, there were at least 12 customers waiting in line at the single checkout. The checkout staff and those preparing teas/coffees were friendly and diligent.
Margaret Watson (07/08/2025, 10:22):
I absolutely adore M&S, it's a wonderfully tidy store with a fantastic selection of clothing and the food hall is top-notch. The Christmas decorations are simply delightful, although I must say I was quite let down to hear they won't be adorning the shop as lavishly as in years past. Those "Magic & Sparkle" displays always brought such joy during the festive season. Despite this, I would have awarded 5 stars without hesitation.
Doris Perry (07/08/2025, 03:02):
Just popping by to share my delightful experience at the Supermarket. I must give credit where it's due, Karen from the Ladies Department truly outdid herself in assisting me with my quest for the perfect dress. This gem of a gal even went the extra mile to track us down at the coffee shop regarding the dress. Her charming and helpful demeanor truly stood out, earning her top marks for exceptional customer service. Rest assured, I'll be keeping an eye out for Karen on my next visit to the store. Cheers!
Evelyn Hernandez (07/08/2025, 01:45):
I popped into this supermarket today and was really chuffed with their COVID measures! They had hand gel stations dotted around, perspex screens up, and all staff were wearing masks. Their test and trace procedures were spot on, and the service in the cafe was top notch. The staff were helpful and friendly. I grabbed a baked potato with beans, two hearty chicken burgers, a sandwich for the little one, a medium and a small cappuccino, all for just £11. Fantastic value! Big thanks to the team for a great experience.
Rebecca Bailey (06/08/2025, 12:41):
It appears there were a few more people shopping today compared to the last two times I visited this week. Despite that, there weren't any long queues to deal with. The cafe was quite bustling, likely due to shoppers being on their feet while doing last-minute shopping and wanting to take a break with a cup of coffee. All the staff members I interacted with were still friendly and accommodating, especially given the time of year.
Doris Hamilton (06/08/2025, 10:48):
I must say, the M&S here is top-notch! The food court is quite impressive, offering a variety that surpasses any other M&S in Edinburgh. I was particularly impressed by the fast food Sushi, it looked incredibly fresh. They have a wide selection of sandwiches, soups, and high-quality TV dinners as well. The Christmas items are also quite appealing, although they may be a tad pricey for everyday shopping.
Nicholas Perez (04/08/2025, 15:54):
I frequently go through this pricey store on my way from the car park to the Gyle center. The garments seem to be of good quality but are lacking in originality or flair. It won't be long before you spot someone else wearing the same outfit.
Madison Ortiz (04/08/2025, 14:34):
Fantastic spot. I hail from the USA and visit annually to stock up on my pistachio cookies and grab some clothing for my grandkids. Your selection of women's bras, shoes, and more is top-notch with exceptional quality. Cheers!
Stephanie Mitchell (01/08/2025, 11:48):
Absolutely love shopping at this market, the quality of the food is top-notch, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the new self-checkout machines make the whole experience quick and efficient. Can't recommend it enough!
Anthony Robinson (29/07/2025, 23:56):
Absolutely smashing, this massive supermarket boasts a top-notch selection of fresh blooms and even offers florist services on site. I couldn't recommend it enough! Cheers!
