If you're planning a memorable day out in Scotland, look no further than the Isle of May Cruises aboard the May Princess. Situated in Anstruther, this boat tour agency offers an unforgettable experience filled with stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife.

Experience the Journey

Visitors highly recommend arriving at least 45 minutes before departure to ensure a smooth boarding process. The check-in hut is conveniently located next to the RNLI station, where you can collect your boarding card. The cruise lasts approximately one hour, and the vessel accommodates up to 100 passengers, providing a cozy yet engaging atmosphere. A small café on board sells hot drinks and souvenirs, adding to the comfort of your trip. However, be prepared for potentially choppy seas, especially if you choose to sit on the top deck. Many guests suggest focusing on the horizon to avoid motion sickness. Additionally, the knowledgeable skipper offers insightful commentary during the journey, enriching your experience with fascinating facts about the area.

Exploring the Isle of May

Once you arrive at the Isle of May, you’ll have about two and a half hours to explore its breathtaking beauty. Although some visitors wished for more time to wander the island, the opportunity to see puffins, seal colonies, and various seabirds makes every moment worthwhile. Guests rave about the spectacular views and the chance to learn about ongoing research from friendly staff members. Many travelers share their excitement about the rich history and ecological significance of the island, emphasizing that it’s a must-visit destination for nature lovers. The island offers incredible photo opportunities, particularly for wildlife enthusiasts hoping to capture images of puffins and seals in their natural habitat.

What to Expect

While most experiences are incredibly positive, it's important to be mindful of the weather conditions. Many reviews highlight the necessity of booking in advance, especially during peak season when the tours tend to fill up quickly. In rainy or windy weather, proper attire is crucial; the crew even provides waterproof jackets to ensure you stay dry while enjoying your trip. Despite occasional choppy waters, many guests express that the journey adds to the adventure. The friendly and professional crew prioritizes passenger safety and comfort, making sure everyone enjoys the ride. Visitors often leave praising the crew's knowledge and attentiveness, stating that their experience wouldn’t have been the same without them.

Extra transfer to the Isle of May. As the boat makes its way around the island before mooring, it's best to opt for the port side for optimal views.

What a brilliant day on the water! The crew were so friendly and full of great information. And let's not forget about the skipper, quite a looker 😉 The island we visited was absolutely stunning. It was a thrill to see seals and various birds up close. If the waters get rough, be prepared to get a bit wet haha! But hey, it just adds to the adventure. I couldn't recommend this boat tour agency enough 👌

We had a jolly good time on our boat trip to the Isle of May! The crew were ever so pleasant and cheerful. Surprisingly, the boat ride wasn't as rough as I had imagined it to be. The island is simply stunning, and I felt quite fortunate to get up close to the puffins, rabbits, and other delightful wildlife. Thank you for a splendid day out!

Had a jolly good time on the puffin tour to the Isle of May in mid-May. Well worth it if you're keen on spotting those delightful puffins. Got up close to many other feathered friends as well. The tour lasted a whopping 5 hours in total, spending a solid 2 hours and 30 minutes on the island itself. Convenient parking nearby for just £1.20. Cheers to a grand day out!

I had a fantastic time with Anstruther Pleasure Cruises once more. I recently joined their Isle of May Open Weekend tour and it was absolutely splendid. The sights along the way were truly wonderful. The Skipper and Crew were outstanding, providing detailed information and ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all passengers. The onboard facilities were top-notch, with well-maintained toilets and a cozy refreshments area. This experience is quite popular, so I highly recommend booking in advance to secure your spot. A truly memorable outing!

Fantastic boat tour! Although we couldn't make it to the island, the experience was still breathtaking and the crew was incredibly helpful.
Gerald Murphy (05/07/2025, 08:52):
Top-notch online booking system. The boarding process was well-organized, with all safety measures in place to ensure a secure and enjoyable boat journey. We were blessed with fantastic weather for our trip to the Isle of May. The skipper was exceptional, very knowledgeable, and provided great commentary throughout the trip. The other two crew members were friendly, engaging, and ensured the comfort and safety of all passengers on board. Although the current restriction on landing at the isle due to avian flu made the tour a tad pricey, the crew's professionalism and the pleasant weather made for an unforgettable experience. We were able to spot seals, puffins, gannets, shags, cormorants, and little terns during the excursion.
Cheryl Gomez (03/07/2025, 16:41):
Absolutely delightful crew providing daily sailings to the Isle of May wildlife sanctuary all summer long. If you're thinking about making the trip, go for it! As long as you're up for a boat ride, that is! 😄

The team is incredibly knowledgeable, though you might need to be near a speaker to catch all the commentary.
Christina Brooks (03/07/2025, 13:20):
I must say, it was a delightful spot to visit, however, I found myself aboard the skipper and experiencing a bit of discomfort in my back as we bobbed up and down at quite a pace. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable experience, and I have already made reservations for a more leisurely tour on the May Princess later this year. Cheers!
Cheryl Baker (29/06/2025, 02:57):
Had a splendid day out with the family. Despite the overcast weather, our knowledgeable skipper shared that it's the best time to spot puffins. And he was absolutely right! 👌
Harold Wright (27/06/2025, 17:57):
We had a smashing day on the Isle of May, wandering around the stunning scenery and spotting the native critters. It marked the beginning of a fortnight-long voyage along the Scottish coast, and the massive chunk of driftwood my mate picked up from the shore - which the captain graciously let us bring back to fashion into a furniture piece - has now made its way down to the south of England for some carpentry magic! Cheers for being such champs!
Ethan Cruz (25/06/2025, 02:29):
Absolutely adored this spot, perfect for a spot of rock pooling with the little ones, and a charming little beach area as well. Didn't get the chance to experience any of the boat tours, but can only imagine they're just as fantastic!
Larry Davis (23/06/2025, 14:25):
