Lomond Galleries Shopping Centre: A Historical Gem in Alexandria

The Lomond Galleries Shopping Centre, located in Alexandria, is a striking example of historical architecture that captivates visitors with its beauty and rich history. Once a bustling car factory, this vast building now presents a unique shopping experience, despite its current state of partial vacancy.

Accessibility Features

One of the key highlights for visitors is the accessibility that Lomond Galleries offers. The shopping centre includes a wheelchair-accessible car park, ensuring that all guests can easily reach the entrance. Additionally, there is a wheelchair-accessible entrance, which allows everyone, including those with mobility challenges, to explore this magnificent structure comfortably. Inside, a lift is also available to facilitate movement between floors, though some feedback suggests it could be better maintained.

On-Site Services

Despite the fact that many shops have closed their doors, Lomond Galleries still provides several on-site services that cater to varying interests. Guests can enjoy a delightful meal at the bistro or browse through the remaining shops, which include an antique store, a bookstore, and more. The historical significance of the building is highlighted through informative displays about its past as a car manufacturing hub, adding an educational element to your visit.

The marble columns, grand staircases, and intricate design details contribute to its charm, making it an ideal spot for photography enthusiasts or anyone interested in stunning historical buildings. Comments from visitors reflect a deep appreciation for the architectural beauty, noting how it transports them back in time.

Challenges and Potential

However, the Lomond Galleries face challenges that can't be overlooked. Many shoppers describe it as eerily quiet, with a number of units standing empty. There's a consensus among visitors that the centre possesses tremendous untapped potential. With more investment and effort, it could thrive as a vibrant shopping destination. Feedback indicates a desire for more variety in terms of service options, suggesting that filling vacant retail spaces could invigorate the area. While visitors enjoy the existing shops, many hope for a resurgence that would attract a larger crowd.

Conclusion: A Visit Worth Considering

In conclusion, while the Lomond Galleries Shopping Centre may not be the bustling hub it once was, its charm and historical significance make it worth a visit. It was a decent experience overall. The car accessories store really stood out to me. The shopping mall is quite grand and impressive, although it's a shame to see it in disrepair.
Keith James (27/06/2025, 09:53):
This place is hardly open, I wouldn't bother visiting. We dropped by in the neighborhood, but unless you're just looking for Card Factory, you might be let down.
Justin Henderson (25/06/2025, 15:25):
Visited a particular shop but was unable to make a purchase due to their payment machine being out of order, a problem that seems to have affected all their stores for a few days now. However, there are quite a few lovely shops in the shopping center worth checking out.
Chloe Jenkins (24/06/2025, 16:09):
Oh, what a lovely structure! It's quite a pity that there aren't more stores occupying space in this stunning building, isn't it?
Joseph Brooks (24/06/2025, 15:32):
There wasn't too much to see when I went, mostly just old cars and many of the shops were closed.
Justin Peterson (24/06/2025, 15:22):
Lagavulin -macaroni was incredibly cheesy and absolutely delicious.
Noah Rogers (22/06/2025, 22:43):
Oh, wow! This retro spot is an absolute gem. A visit is definitely a must! There are some incredible shops to explore inside, or you can simply appreciate the historic architecture and traditional features within.
Wayne Rivera (21/06/2025, 17:49):
Tremendous selection of books suitable for individuals of all ages, I must say!
Beverly Coleman (19/06/2025, 21:22):
I recently popped into The Works, an excellent store for arts and crafts, books, games, and more. However, I couldn't help but notice that the other areas of the shopping mall were a bit lacking in the variety of shops. It seems like there are many vacant units that could be filled to enhance the overall shopping experience. This historic building definitely has potential that is not being fully utilized at the moment.
Leonard Carter (19/06/2025, 05:28):
Absolutely love it, fantastic deals to be found!
Brenda Ford (18/06/2025, 20:53):
I must say, the architecture is quite captivating, don't you think? The way the angles and structures come together creates a truly unique shopping experience. I can't help but admire the innovative design and attention to detail. What are your thoughts on the architecture of this shopping mall?
Ethan Barnes (13/06/2025, 04:26):
During my visit to Lomond Galleries, I was truly taken aback by its beauty and rich past. The architecture is simply stunning, featuring marble columns, grand staircases, and intricate design elements that ooze grace and sophistication. I am enamored with this place for its ability to whisk you away to another era; its history is palpable in every nook and cranny, particularly when you learn that it was once a bustling car factory teeming with innovation and industry. Despite its current condition, with many shops shuttered and an overall air of neglect, the building's magnificence and historical depth left me spellbound. A few shops are still open, such as a cozy bistro and an antique store, but there is so much unrealized potential here. For anyone who has an eye for extraordinary architecture and history, Lomond Galleries is a true gem and definitely worth a visit.
George Perry (12/06/2025, 08:50):
I took my grandsons for a spot of lunch at the cafe and then we headed to the toy store.
Raymond Peterson (12/06/2025, 02:29):
I must say, this structure is quite extraordinary. Constructed in the 1900s, it served as a former torpedo factory during both World War I and World War II. It was a hub for many locals who worked tirelessly within its walls. However, as the years passed, this elegant sandstone building with its tall ceilings and magnificent marble staircase fell into disrepair. It remained abandoned and overlooked for a significant period until it was purchased and restored in the 1990s, transforming it into a bustling retail space.

Today, this place offers numerous units for rent and has become a beloved spot among the locals. Currently, you can find a variety of establishments within its walls, including a tattoo parlour, an antique shop, a bridal store, a top-notch computer repair shop, a bookshop, a restaurant, a baby sensory center, and even a kilt shop. If you appreciate history, a visit to this location would undoubtedly be a delight.
Samantha Moore (10/06/2025, 07:22):
One of the more quaint Shopping Malls, where many Retail stores remain closed due to COVID Restrictions from 2 years past. No difference noticed since my previous visit a couple of months back. During this recent visit, I discovered the inviting Bistro on the 1st floor and had a delightful experience 👍🏻👌🏻 ...
Raymond Alexander (10/06/2025, 00:52):
I must say, this shopping mall is an absolute gem. The variety of stores and dining options is truly impressive. I had a splendid time exploring all the different shops and treating myself to some delicious meals. Can't wait to come back and do it all over again!
Ruth Gonzalez (09/06/2025, 09:25):
This shopping mall is in serious need of some TLC, it's looking a bit worse for wear.
Amelia Alexander (07/06/2025, 23:09):
Definitely not worth the visit. The shopping mall is quite rundown and could definitely use a good cleaning. I would recommend finding another place to spend your time and money.
William Edwards (02/06/2025, 14:35):
The shopping options are quite limited at this mall, mate.
Diane Bailey (31/05/2025, 03:27):
The edifice might have been charming in the past, but presently it is plagued by persistent leaks that remain unattended. Moreover, extensive cracks running along the walls and floors give the impression of an unsafe environment.
