You can try to find absolutely everything for just a pound. 😀
Walter Thompson (15/07/2025, 07:59):
It's getting quite tricky to find a wide range of products for just a pound these days. As a result, some items that you'd usually find are missing. Personally, I don't mind paying a little extra for the convenience of having my go-to items in stock. So, I hope you'll keep on carrying your usual selection of goods, so I can continue saying, "I'll just pop into the Pound shop."
Samantha Hamilton (15/07/2025, 03:01):
"Cor blimey! This place is a real steal, I tell ya! Absolute bargain, it is!"
Janice Lee (14/07/2025, 11:23):
Compared to other discount stores, Poundland used to be the best in my honest opinion. However, they seem to have lost their way recently. DIY and automotive items are quite scarce now.

I do quite like some of the 'more than a pound' items, but I am concerned that they are sacrificing shelf space for the budget items that originally attracted me here years ago.

The decline in the value of the pound may explain some of the reasons, but they should leverage their purchasing power to regain their position and secure more deals.

Adding more tools, fixtures, and car products would surely please the customers... at least, customers like myself.

Just purchased a few bits and bobs, but definitely worth having a mooch around. Cheers!

Oh, aye! Poundland, the classic warehouse store where you can find a wee bit for just a quid. It's a proper bargain hunting spot, isn't it?
Ethan Diaz (26/06/2025, 06:03):
I adore Poundland. Undoubtedly, some establishments are superior to others, yet as a general principle, it's an exceptional spot to uncover deals. Sure, there may be a few trinkets peddled in most Poundland stores that aren't even worth £1, but the large majority of merchandise boasts decent or outstanding quality, and on a regular basis, I stumble upon items in the stores that make me ponder how the company manages to turn any sort of profit as these items would undoubtedly fetch £10 or more in other establishments.

This specific store is decent, though far from flawless. It's quite spacious with a vast and diverse range of goods, few vacant spots on the shelves, and the service is typically pretty swift. Nonetheless, there are a few issues with this particular store.

Firstly, the layout. The entrance is set up in a way that even if you solely require something from around the till area or the third aisle, you must commence in the first aisle and navigate around most of the shop to pay. I grasp the rationale behind it - compelling the customer to circumvent the entire store heightens the probability that they will depart with more than the one or two items they initially sought, but for those in a rush, or whose feet are already aching from wandering around the other shops in the retail park, it can be exasperating.

Moreover, there are no indications in the aisles to assist customers in their quest to locate what they require, and certain aspects of the stock arrangement are completely nonsensical with plush toys in the same aisle as garden ornaments and stationery almost directly beside shampoo and soap. While habitual patrons may be acclimated to this peculiar layout, it renders it challenging for occasional visitors to find what they require, and numerous times I've departed without finding/purchasing the one thing I entered for.

Regarding the staff...some are phenomenal. There are a couple, in particular, who always seem enthusiastic to assist and provide service with a smile. Nonetheless, they are overwhelmingly outnumbered by the lifeless automatons who genuinely don't care about the shop, customer service, or anything beyond their paycheck. I understand. Having toiled in retail myself, I possess a great deal of empathy for them. It can be a soul-crushing ordeal working a job for which you hold no passion, but for the sake of customers and the business, it's obligatory to feign some level of...well, vitality.

Two recent instances exemplify what I mean. On the penultimate occasion, my spouse and I popped into the shop to purchase some of the Disney-themed canvas bags dangling behind the tills. My wife is a devoted Disney aficionado and aspires to amass all the various bags for reasons I can't fathom, yet it brings her joy, so I do not question it. Spotting three bags she hadn't yet acquired, she requested the lady behind the counter to retrieve them from the hooks positioned behind the tills and out of reach of customers. She procured the bags, but only subsequent to rolling her eyes and audibly sighing.

During our most recent visit, we were queuing and observed an elderly gentleman loitering near the tills. He decided he desired to sit and utilized the metal shelf by an unoccupied checkout, the shelf on which customers usually rest their baskets, as a bench. The shelf warped, bent, and detached on one side. Realizing none of the staff had spotted it, he got up and departed. I brought it to the attention of the individual who served us, a young man who didn't even acknowledge our presence after summoning us to be served, and his response was a shrug.

As mentioned earlier, I have worked in retail - it's how I financed my way through University - and there are locations where I worked that I utterly detested, but if a customer had approached me and reported that another patron had caused damage to something in the store, I would have promptly notified a manager or supervisor. I doubt any of the managers I worked for would have taken measures to compel the customer to cover the damages or post a sign stating that the metal shelves shouldn't be used as benches, but they would, at the very least, have documented the damage so it could be rectified.

Overall, a decent shop, yet not the finest Poundland establishment in Scotland.
