Highlights of the Store

Final Thoughts

With a dedicated customer base, there’s potential for enhancing the service and maintaining the high standards expected from this longstanding retailer.

I was doing my Christmas shopping and was quite disappointed to see that the expiration dates on the food items were only good until the 23rd of December. I will probably have to wait until Sunday or Monday to find items with better expiration dates. It's a shame that most of the food items have such a short shelf life.

Always fantastic deals on groceries, mate! I've been using their click and collect service for ages - got me some loafers 4 years back that were an absolute dream on my feet. Now I've gone and bought another pair 'cause they're like slippers, I tell ya. Loads of checkouts always open and a top-notch selection of clothes at the moment. Cheers!

I recently popped into the M&S Café at Glasgow Fort, and I must say, the experience left much to be desired—once again. It's not a one-off occurrence; each time I swing by, I depart feeling rather vexed, swearing off a return trip. But this time, I truly mean it.
The service was quite abysmal—tables sat uncleared, and the floors cried out for a good sweep. We had to implore the staff to tidy up a table before we could even take a seat, which really should be a basic standard of cleanliness.
The queue crept along at a painfully slow pace, and it was evident that the staff lacked proper training in customer service etiquette. They appeared rather lackadaisical and inefficient, making the entire ordering process a source of frustration.
I ordered a meal deal for my two-year-old granddaughter, and to our dismay, there were no bananas in stock. A team member assured us she would fetch one, and when it finally arrived, it was so unripe that it might just be edible in about a week's time!
Regarding my own meal, I opted for a baked potato with beans, but alas, the portion of beans was so meagre that it barely covered half the potato. Given the price, I anticipated a more ample and harmonious serving.
In sum, the café exuded disarray, the staff appeared uncooperative, and the food portions proved underwhelming. Each visit seems to mirror this same subpar standard, but this time was truly the final nail in the coffin. I shan't be back.

The last visit we had was quite disappointing, and we vowed not to return. Today's experience was the worst yet. There was no hot food available, but that didn't bother us as we only stopped for a coffee. The dining area had around 18 tables covered in dirty dishes. A young man was mopping the floor, and a lady was clearing the tables at an incredibly slow pace. When my husband asked the girl at the register for a glass for his cola, she bluntly said there were none, then pointed to two used paper cups left on the side. We even lacked a knife to cut our cake, so I had to personally go to the kitchen to request one. Plates and napkins were also absent. Another girl came to assist the first lady, but surprisingly they both engaged in casual conversation for a while. Upon leaving, I requested to speak with the manager to address the situation, but I was informed that she was not around and the person I spoke with would be acting as the manager for the day. She assured me that the issues would be addressed. It's disheartening to see the standards of this M&S establishment fall to such a low point.

The coffee was absolutely dreadful, and the staff were just terrible.
Larry Murphy (10/07/2025, 00:25):
Well, mate, this place is spot on for certain grub, but can be a tad pricier than your average joint down the road.
Matthew Nguyen (09/07/2025, 09:53):
Stopped by the Marks and Spencer café at The Fort and was pleasantly surprised. It was bustling, but everything was well coordinated. I half-expected a long wait for my lunch, but as soon as I took my seat, it was served. £7 for a baked potato with three-bean vegetable chili - not bad at all.

I wish to bring attention to a truly remarkable Customer Service experience provided by your employee Jonathan at the Food Market last week.
I had been searching high and low throughout your store for a Peppa Pig Advent Calendar, to no avail. Jonathan could sense my determination to find something, and after a brief conversation, he informed me that regrettably there were none left - however, he kindly suggested a specific date for me to return when he anticipated a new delivery.
And here comes the remarkable part... just 5 minutes later, Jonathan sought me out at the opposite end of the store, presenting what I can only assume was the final Peppa Pig Advent Calendar in the entire establishment. I hadn't requested him to search for one on my behalf; he simply recognized my eagerness to make the purchase promptly. I am truly grateful for the lengths he went to assist me. This small act speaks volumes about your brand, training, and values. Kudos to you, Jonathan!

Customer order delayed twice. Not much warning provided. Ordered earrings for me daughter's birthday on Friday to pick up in store on Saturday. While I was at the Fort, I got an email saying they wouldn't arrive until after midday on Sunday. Upon returning on Sunday, I was then told they were still delayed. No email updated me on this. Feeling quite let down.

Marks is situated at the back of Fort Glasgow shopping center. The parking lot is quite roomy and best of all, it's free! Inside, you'll find a delightful food hall, a cozy café, and a fabulous clothing department. The employees are really friendly and always willing to lend a hand.
Samantha Clark (27/06/2025, 15:51):
A massive shoutout to the wonderful employee who allowed me to juice up my phone when I was stranded with a dead battery in my car and an equally dead phone - crikey! It could have been a right nightmare. I truly valued her kindness and understanding. THANK YOU!
Lawrence Cox (27/06/2025, 07:41):
I absolutely adore spending my Sundays at the café, sipping on a cup or two of tea while enjoying a delicious smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel. The staff there is truly fantastic!
Matthew Rodriguez (25/06/2025, 06:04):
I recently popped into the supermarket and was impressed by their thorough Covid precautions. A friendly employee greeted me upon arrival to explain all the safety measures they had implemented, including visible surface cleaning by staff members. The store was also operating a one-way system to ensure smooth flow of customers.
Brenda Morris (21/06/2025, 20:37):
My experience at Marks and Spencer was quite disappointing. My friend and I stood at the self-checkout area for over 5 minutes, waiting for the only cash checkout available. The staff member rudely gestured for us to join the queue at the manned checkout, which had over six people ahead of us, even though we were only purchasing two small items. We strongly believe that having just one operational cash self-checkout is not sufficient. When we finally got to use it, the transaction took us less than a minute. Waiting for so long to use a machine that processes transactions quickly is frustrating and seems like a joke. M&S should reconsider their decision to have so few cash-accepting checkouts.
Keith Kim (21/06/2025, 16:18):
My son had an issue with his school uniform, specifically his shoes were too small. The kind South African lady at the store quickly processed a refund for us without any hassle. Not only that, but she also shared some valuable advice on currency exchange at M&S. Top-notch customer service!
Lisa Gray (17/06/2025, 17:29):
The staff at this supermarket are top notch, mate! They've got a cracking selection of clobber and that. Kirsty and Jenny went above and beyond to help me and the missus with sorting out some bother with the M&S App. Cheers, Kenny & Moira Small
Benjamin Roberts (15/06/2025, 04:21):
This establishment is truly exceptional, offering top-notch cuisine in the UK.
Catherine Phillips (14/06/2025, 08:27):
Ah, the classic M&S experience. A wonderful array of clothing and food options, albeit a tad pricier than your neighborhood spots, but hey, you get what you pay for - quality. The staff are usually quite accommodating too.
Judy Barnes (12/06/2025, 19:06):
DISGUSTING SERVICE!
I popped into this establishment for a quick sandwich and decided to pick up the prawn cocktail, which they boldly claim is M&S's finest. After taking a bite, I immediately noticed that the bread was stale. Upon checking the best before date, I realized it had expired today. I returned to the self-service area where I had made my purchase, trying to catch the attention of a staff member named Lesley, who was preoccupied with reading the Daily Mail (a sign of things to come, mind you).
After finally getting her attention, I explained the situation. She dismissively took the sandwich from me, inspected it with her finger, and in a tone dripping with sarcasm, assured me that it was perfectly fine! I was taken aback and insisted that I was not lying. To my disbelief, she then proceeded to give me an insolent once-over and declared that she would need to consult the manager. Her rudeness was utterly appalling! There was no apology, just sheer contempt!
Eventually, I managed to obtain a refund, although at first, they hesitated due to my lack of a receipt. I had chosen not to take one to save paper, and I had to argue my case with them on this matter as well. They eventually retrieved the transaction from the register, but the whole process was a farce.
My advice is to steer clear of this establishment and especially their stale offerings - it's no surprise that M&S is on a downward spiral...
...AND KEEP AWAY FROM LESLEY, THE AWFUL DAILY MAIL READER!!!
Zachary Brooks (12/06/2025, 09:33):
My experience at this store was top-notch. It was peaceful, yet the store was stunning. It was neat, organized, well-stocked with the latest summer collection, which this year appears fantastic compared to the past couple of years. The staff were wonderful, and as a few customers approached the checkout area, so did the staff, ensuring no waiting time. The food section was equally impressive. Overall, a fantastic shopping experience. Thank you.
